The motor drives the needle, bobbin and the feed dogs. With this machine you have a foot pedal, one can compare it to the gas pedal in a car the more you push down the faster the car goes and in this regard the sewing machine.
This is a safe bet and will do all the basic sewing you would require. If you decide that this is the machine for you then just have a look at the various types you can purchase and have a look at the different features, then you can decide what will work best for you. This is a very good investment, and the manufacturers constantly improve their models.
The Computerized Sewing Machines
This is basically like the electronic model, however more apt technology has been incorporated. They offer many fascinating features They have LCD screens and with the push of a button certain actions are selected. What is great is that the machines are pre programmed, which makes it so much easier to use.
Please do not let the name computerized scare you, because they are very easy to operate. There are quite a few models on the market you can choose from, so again you will have to select one that will fit your budget and your needs. There are models which cost a pretty penny, but you will certainly find one that will be perfect for you.
Overlocker
This machine is certainly not a necessity but a great one to have. These machines are used to prevent fraying and give a professional finish to the seams of a garment. But this can just as easily be done with a normal sewing machine, it won’t be that professional, but who will notice anyway?
The problem is that you will always need an additional sewing machine; you cannot only use an overlocker as its functions are limited. This is a great machine, no doubt about it and if you have the means then it would be great. Perhaps if you do sewing for a business it would be advisable to get an overlocker to add that professional touch.
The Manual Sewing Machine
Just because they are operated by turning a handle doesn’t mean that they don’t work well. This machine does not work with electricity. What you have to do is turn a handle which powers the machine. They are of good quality and can perform very well. The older generation will remember these machines with great adoration. Time has given us new models which are much easier to operate.
