Kids love animals…. So much so that the chances are pretty good that drawing the family dog or cat will be one of their first attempts at art.

In addition to simply drawking them, there are a number of activities based on animal themes. One of the best, and easiest, examples of an animal craft is making paper plate lions.

For this project, you will need:
paper plates
yarn in yellow, orange, and brown
Cotton balls
markers
glue
paper

You will be using the paper plate as the lions head. To give it the illusion of having fur, stick yellow yarn all over the surface of the paper plate and add longer brown and orangish pieces to the bottom half to give the impression of a shaggy lion mane.

Next, draw the face, such as eyes and nose of the lion with markers or crayons. Use paper to make the ears, and stick it on top of the plate.

In the end, cut out the eyes of the lion, and make holes on both the sides and tie string to make a mask.
